I will never stop fighting for women’s rights

Today, a draft opinion revealed that the Supreme Court has voted to strike down Roe v Wade. The majority opinion was written by Justice Alito and allegedly supported by the four other Republican-appointed justices.

It’s difficult to put what I’m feeling into words. I am angry, frustrated, and heartbroken at this news. I cannot believe that, in 2022, we are still debating whether women should have control over their own bodies.

I don’t know what’s going to happen after Roe v Wade is overturned, but here is what I do know. I am endorsed by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action. I have, and will always, protect a woman's right to choose. I cannot say the same for my opponent.

When he was asked about his opinion on choice, my opponent replied: “That’s not an easy question,” “It’s not my body,” “There’s all kinds of debates,” and “It’s a tough one.” The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade threatens abortion rights across the nation. This is not the time for us to have a State Senator who hesitates when asked about choice.

Tonight, we are all faced with a choice. I am choosing to use my anger, frustration, and heartbreak to fuel me to protect a women’s right over her own body.
